Laura Shallcrass is an artist based in Queenstown New Zealand. Born in Wellington, Laura trained as an illustrator and graphic designer, before traveling the world and becoming increasingly drawn in by the world of fine arts.
Laura settled in Queenstown where her love of the outdoors informs and inspires her work. Work which in turn featurs flora, fauna and more recently gemstones and minerals hovering dreamlike against scenes both ethereal and familiar.
Laura paints in oils and gouache and draws in ink and graphite, creating sparse and yet detail focused works of infinite depth and stillness.
She has participated in a number of group shows as well as 4 solo exhibitions. A finalist for the Red Book Art Prize 2013 she is published in the Red Book, Remix, Extra Curricular and a number of other publications from New Zealand and Australia.
Laura works out of her mezzanine studio in her little black house in Queenstown New Zealand.
