    New work for 2017

With her 2017 works Laura has continued to explore adding landscapes to her signature geological studies. South Island landmarks like Hidden Island in Lake Wakatipu and the Arahura River on the West Coast populate the work, drawing on the artists personal history as well as the history of the land to create new narratives when viewed together with the hovering crystals.

    Obsidian / Arahura

Oil on canvas : 800 X 800mm Dark glass-like volcanic rock, obsidian is a great protector and adept at removing negativity. A personal favourite to paint, this rock appears to devour light, shining back a small glimpse of the depths below. Inspired by a late night drive up the west coast in the magical moonlight this piece acknowledges the draw as well as the darkness of my families history in that land.
